Built right from the blueprints, the Sonoma Wine Trolley is a motorized, authentic replica of a late 1890’s San Francisco cable car. We take you to a rotating list of fantastic winery partners. Today we’d like to introduce you to Deerfield Ranch Winery.
Deerfield Ranch Winery is located in Kenwood, the heart of Sonoma Valley. An award winning, certified organic producer, winery crafting 15,000 cases annually. Robert Rex, associate winemaker Cecilia Valdivia and their team, make small lots of handcrafted wine from more than 26 selected vineyards in Sonoma County. Specializing in low histamine and low sulfite Clean Wine™, Deerfield is at the forefront of this modern yet traditionally based style and on the cutting edge of California winemaking techniques. Even though Robert has been making wine since the 70’s, the Deerfield Ranch winery that you see today has only been open for a handful of years.
Upon arrival at the winery, we will drive down the long narrow driveway while you take in the wetlands and giant giraffe sculptures welcoming you to the property. Their tasting room is in the center of their 23,000 square feet wine cave, in the heart of the production facility. As you walk across the crush pad to enter the cave, you’ll get to see all the action from grape to glass. Stroll past hundreds of barrels full of wine to the center of the wine glass shaped cave and into the Grand Room. Take a seat in Deerfield Ranch’s comfortable living room style tasting room and enjoy world-class wines in a fun and relaxed atmosphere instead of standing at a crowded tasting bar.
You’ll have the opportunity to relax and savor various flights of wine selected from the 20 wines made by Deerfield. Your taste buds and the hosts will guide you on a sensory experience that shows off the best of Sonoma County wine. Tasting fees, which range from $10 to $25 per person can be applied to the purchase of three bottles of more.
They make wine by hand in small lots and taste the wines constantly throughout the wine making process. The wines are fruit forward, perfectly balanced with soft tannins and low acidity. At Deerfield Ranch Winery, they triple hand-sort all of their grapes to remove anything you wouldn’t feed even a baby according to owner PJ Rex. This reduces the toxins and bacteria. The wines range in price from $18 to $125 per bottle. VIP tastings at Deerfield Ranch, the ridge top home of Robert and PJ Rex and their first winery, can be arranged by appointment.
